Snow Leopard Font Spacing Bug Crippling for Designers - Updated
| November 10th, 2009 |
Many designers have been reporting to us that Snow Leopard is rendering fonts slightly differently, adding spacing where it shouldn't be, causing a major hassle for workflow consistency in applications like Flash, InDesign, Quark and Filemaker. This issue mostly effects Postscript Type 1 fonts.
The Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Update appears to have fixed the spacing issue in Quark, however, it was not a total fix for the problem as many of our clients are still experiencing spacing issues with FileMaker and Adobe CS 4. Quark users who had 10.6 or 10.6.1 installed may also need to take additional steps to fix the issue:
1. Download & Install Font Finagler Version 1.5 (or newer)
2. Restart your Mac into Safe Mode. (Hold the Shift key after you hear the startup tone)
3. Inspect & Clear all the font caches with Font Finagler (thank you Kurt Lang and Mark Douma)
4. Restart
5. Download and install the 10.6.2 Combo Update
